The air we breathe, the food we eat, the lotion we use…it all can have toxins in it. And if we are ingesting toxins, then our body is going into overdrive trying to get rid of them. And if we don’t take proper measures to rid our bodies of these toxins (which happens naturally) it can begin to wreak havoc on our systems. Health starts from the inside. And if our internal health is not in check, it is going to show on the outside. Rounding up all my tips to detox your body without an all liquid diet or expensive supplements!

What is “detoxing”?

Detoxing is the cleansing of the internal organs to clear them of environmental pollutants causing issues inside the body. Throughout the day we are exposed to all sorts of toxins; and depending on the severity it can slowly start to take a toll on our bodies. From car emissions we breath in, fake foods we consume, cheap perfume we spray on ourselves are all going to cause chemical reactions and hormone imbalances in our bodies.

Popular toxins that can cause endocrine disruptions and health problems:

» PCBs-(polychlorinated biphenyls, found in farm-raised salmon)

» Heavy Metals

» Mycotoxins

» Pesticides

» VOC’s-(Volatile Organic Compounds, found in water/paint/deodorant/cosmetics)

“The human body has many natural detox pathways via the liver, urine, sweat and feces. While it is a complex process, the liver neutralizes toxic substances, and then releases them from the body. A diet specifically for further detox claims to help the bodies vital organs rest and recover, support and increase liver function, and give you a “boost” of important micronutrients.” Dr. Axe writes. Detoxing can be anything that removes toxins from our bodies. This can be supplementation, meditation, food etc. There are extreme measures such as full juice/liquid cleanse or there are less severe actions you can take, which I am going to share with you today!

Top Tips to detox your body

As promised, I am going to share my top tips for detoxing the body WITHOUT juice cleansing or expensive supplements. The body can do amazing things if it is given the right tools!

Dry Brushing;

Dry brushing is just as it sounds. Taking a natural bristle brush (can buy at most health stores or on amazon) and brush your body. You want to start at your feet and use long, sweeping motions towards your heart, overlapping as youdry brushing go. Make sure you are standing in a bathtub or on a towel because the amount of dead skin you lose is a bit disgusting. This simple task can work wonders for your detoxing your body. It stimulates your lymphatic system which naturally releases toxins from your cells.body. Dry brushing has other benefits as well such as exfoliation, unclogging pores, breaking down cellulite and even stimulate digestion! Such a simple 5 minute task a day can make a huge difference in terms of health and wellness of your body.

Infrared Sauna:

Started by those in Finland, a sauna is a small room with hot-air or steam bath used for refreshing the body. Traditional sauna’s use stones or electricity to heat the room, but infrared sauna’s use light. The purpose of a sauna for detoxing is sweating. This is a natural process the body does, not only to cool itself down but to remove toxins from our system. A traditional sauna heats the air around you, getting up to temperatures ranging 180-200 degrees Fahrenheit. An infrared sauna is said to penetrate your skin and heat the tissue directly, getting up to temperatures of 130-150 degrees Fahrenheit.

Exercise:

Exercise is good for everything, and it doesn’t stop at clearing out toxins from the body. By actively increasing your body temperature you are then increasing sweating, which we already know detoxifies the body. Indulging in exercise, or movement, helps circulate both blood and lymph to help the organs fully function and eliminate toxins. Not only that but exercise increases your heart and breathing rate, which also helps to carry toxins out of the body. So whenever you are exercising make sure you are drinking plenty of water to help flush the unwanted waste from the body.

Massage:

Let’s keep the trend going here…circulation. We all know that getting a deep tissue massage (besides feeling massageamazing) is also sometimes painful. Every time you leave they always tell you to drink plenty of water. but, why? Because the rubbing and breaking down of muscle tissue stimulates the lymphatic system. All this breakdown and damage releases toxins into the bloodstream and keeping well hydrated is going to help remove those before they get caught up in immune cells and cannot leave the body. So if you find yourself feeling sluggish and sore/tired, try getting a massage to loosen things up and get things moving again!

Diet:

Last piece of the puzzle is our diet. Now, if you do a quick google search for “detox” you will probably get a bunch of juice cleanses or restrictive diets to detoxify your body and “clear things out”.  While some of those may work, it really isn’t ideal to drink our calories for multiple days. So, there are actually certain foods you can add into your diet to help naturally remove toxins without the use of expensive supplements or a all liquid diet. Some of these detox foods include: apples, cruciferous vegetables, avocado, beets, dandelion, garlic, ginger, flaxseeds, and several more! You may already be eating some of these, so go you! But if not, add a few of things into your daily intake to help your body thrive!

So, the gist? Detoxing is so important for overall health! And yes, we all need to do it no matter what our lifestyle is because we are exposed to toxins EVERYWHERE. I also suggest….checking cosmetics/supplements for chemicals, eating more vegetables and sweating daily!

Let’s all be more mindful over overall internal health, not just external appearances; because we are all so much more than a number on the scale or a letter on a tag!
