Listen, if you have been here for awhile, this is going to sound redundant. Why? Because I am constantly preaching about the fact that you need a plan [or a program] to follow in order to stay on track.
You see, you can have the greatest intensions about getting healthy, and working out. But sooner or later, the excitement fades, and it feels like a chore….and then you, lose interest and fall off.
It happens often, so if this is you, you aren’t alone. You just have to be realistic with yourself.
You may think you can do it on your own without a program, but have you before? How many times have you “started over” on your own but always seem to fall off after a few weeks?
If that is the case, you need a program. Benefits of following a program are not just keeping you on track, there are so many more…let’s dive in!
Table of Contents
Following a program gives you clear direction.
We know that starting a healthy lifestyle, and changing so much of our current routine is hard.
It takes time and it takes a lot of effort and planning. So along with taking mental note on moving your body and eating healthy, you have to also figure out how to move your body.
What are you going to do? For how long? How many days per week? These are popular questions asked (or googled), am I right?
This is why a program is so beneficial. It gives you clear direction on what you have to do.
You know the number of workouts you should get in, and what to do during your workouts is laid out for you.
So you don’t have to guess, or google, or youtube what workout to do (especially one that is going to be specific to your goals).
Most people put off losing weight or changing their lifestyle because of the unknown.
They have no idea where to start, what to do, and it just sounds like a lot of work.
A lot of time and energy has to go into figuring out what you even should do, and there is the act of actually doing it.
The perk of a program (a good one at least) is going to take all of the guessing out of it for you.
You are handed exactly what you need to do to get started, a clear direction.
Following a program increases adherence rate.
I don’t know about you, but if something isn’t written down, it likely isn’t getting done.
Not because it’s not important, but because I literally forget.
Here is an example. I started this year wanting to lean how to play my guitar (I mean, I got it in 2015, I should probably out it to use). And I started strong playing it nightly.
And then a few things came up and I missed a couple days, and then I literally…forgot.
It wasn’t until a few weeks later that I remembered I wanted to learn, and what the heck happened to my nightly routine?!
You see – sometimes if we don’t have a solid plan, we totally forget. Or not even that, we lose interest.
I was just teaching myself guitar, so everyday I would just pick it up and start strumming.
But if I had a teacher, or I had lessons, I bet I would have stuck with it.
Same goes for your fitness routine.
You need a program to increase your adherence rate.
To give you guidelines to follow – so that on the days you don’t have motivation, you do it anyways.
And so that when you get busy and routines change, you don’t forget what you were doing.
Having a program increases your chances of actually following through and completing it, there is no doubt about that.
Following a program gets you results faster.
Look, I know there is some confusion when it comes to what workouts burn the most calories and how much jumping do I need to do during my workout to burn enough calories to lose weight.
So much information out there, it gets a little cloudy.
So let me just tell you this – there is no ONE workout that is going to do it all for you.
There isn’t a special exercise that burns fat, there isn’t a certain length of workout that burns 500 calories.
There is intention in your workouts, and building muscle tissue.
That is what is going to lead to results. And if you are jumping form workout to workout without any progression, you aren’t going to see the results you want to see.
Results come from consistency over time, and progression.
Progression means things like increasing weights used, increasing intensity (sets/reps), decreasing rest periods etc.
All of these are ways to let you see that you are getting better, and to know when to push yourself past where you have been so that new training adaptations can occur.
If you are always doing a different workout with different movements, you aren’t going to be able to track any kind of progression.
No progression, you will be spinning your wheels and your progress will be slow.
Following a program teaches you the why.
Humans like to ask questions, usually.
And the more understanding we have on a topic, the easier it is for us to justify exactly what we are doing, or should be doing.
A good program is going to teach you the WHY behind what you are doing.
Why you need exercise and movement, why you need to eat a certain amount, why you can’t slash calories, why you need to sleep.
All of these things play a role in seeing results, but if you don’t know the why behind it..you likely, at some point, are going to stop listening.
You are going to go back to your old ways because that feels comfortable, and because no one has shared with you the science behind why you approach might not be the best.
So by learning along the way, you are opening yourself up to a better understanding of your body and health, and that is much easier to stay on track with.
So while these 4 reasons are why you should join a program, now I am going to share why you should join my program.
I have a beginner program called the Accelerator.
And everything I just stated above, it covers that.
We dive deep into teaching you exactly why you should be eating healthy and moving your body, along with how to do it.
It is basically me virtually holding your hand through the toughest part of a lifestyle change…the beginning.
This program will take all of the guessing out for you.
You don’t even have to workout alone, you press play on the videos and I workout with you through the whole thing.
It’s motivating, and it makes it easier to jump into your workout rather than having to count, motivate and push yourself!
Over the years of running challenges, programs, and coaching online I have found that what people need is direction, simplicity, and someone to give a shit about them.
